Why grilles sometimes make noise?

Pella grille options are very popular and many homes have them. A home’s location, traffic flow, window and door configuration and other factors may sometimes cause decorative grilles to “rattle” and create noise.

A Consumer should do the following before selecting decorative grilles for your windows and doors:

  • Rattli If you live near an airport, manufacturing/construction facility or busy highway, the walls of your home or business may shake and cause “rattling” with the grilles.
  • Rattling grilles may occur when the window shares a wall with a hinged door. When the door is closed or slammed shut, it may shake the wall and cause the window or door grilles to rattle.

How can I help reduce the rattling

If your removable grilles are rattling, follow the instructions in your Pella owner’s manual to remove and reinstall them. Lost your owner’s manual? Call Rusco Windows and Doors

Pella offers five different grille types:

  • Integral Light Technology® (ILT) grilles – Grilles are permanently bonded to the inside and outside of glass with a nonglare foam spacer in between to cast a realistic shadow like that of individual windowpanes.
  • Simulated-divided-light grilles – Grilles are permanently bonded to the roomside and outside of the insulating glass, without a spacer between the grilles.
  • Removable roomside wood grilles – Grilles are attached to the inside of your windows, yet can be quickly removed to make cleaning the glass easier or for a different look.
  • Grilles-between-the-glass – Grilles are permanently sealed between the panes of insulating glass, creating a smooth glass surface that’s easy to clean from the interior and exterior of the structure.
  • Removable between-the-glass grilles – These grilles snap in and out so you can change them when you want to change the look of your home or business. They’re also protected under glass so they don’t need constant dusting.

How do you wash windows? Tips from Pella

Your Pella windows are beautiful yet you cannot see your beautiful view. Time to clean your windows! Here are some tips:

  • To wash interior glass of windows and doors, use a premixed vinegar and water solution (one part white vinegar to 10 parts water) and a soft, lint-free towel or cloth.
  • Ammonia-free Windex® Glass and Surface Cleaner (clear liquid) or Sparkle Glass Cleaner (purple liquid) are Pella-recommended glass cleaning options for best overall results.
  • For outside cleaning, use the same mixture and a squeegee.
  • Be generous with the amount of cleaner applied.
  • Rinse with clear water if streaks remain after cleaning.
  • Carefully use a mild abrasive, such as Soft Scrub® (The Clorox Company), and wet cloth for tougher marks such as grease, oil, tape adhesive, crayons or paint. Wipe clean using a dry, clean, lint-free towel or cloth. Then clean the glass as mentioned above.

Screens

  • To remove dust and dirt from screens, simply vacuum with the upholstery brush attachment.
  • For grease spots, typically found in kitchen screens, use hot water and a mild detergent.
  • For a flat screen, those found on a storm door or patio door, remove the screen and wash with soap and water. Or use a drapery brush attachment on a vacuum.

Pella and Rusco Windows and Doors hope this tips help you with cleaning your windows and screens. Rusco Windows and Doors is a Pella Certified Contractor who takes pride in helping their clients with all their needs from planning, purchasing, installation and service.

Pella Energy-efficient doors

Are your doors energy efficent? As with windows, follow these basics for best-functioning doors:

  • Weatherstrip around the perimeter of a door to ensure a tight seal when closed.
  • Install quality door sweeps on the bottom of the doors if they aren’t already in place.
  • Remove old or peeling caulk around door frames and replace the caulk.

Don’t overlook patio doors. Treat them just as you would windows when evaluating your home’s energy performance. Type of glass, coatings and panes of glass all contribute to a patio door’s optimal performance.
